New York (AP) Derek Jeters New York Yankees will face the Boston Red Sox in the season opener on Sunday, Sept. 1.
New York’s first-round draft pick in 2019 was a solid second baseman who has shown flashes at shortstop, first base and outfield.
Jeter will start in left field, right field and DH, and will take the mound in the ninth inning.
The team announced on Friday the 19-year-old Jeter would start against the Red Sox, the team announced in a press release.
Jeter was selected by the Yankees with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 draft, which went to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
He was traded to the New York Mets on Sept. 18, 2019.
Jeters first two seasons were spent with the Yankees.
He made his major league debut with the club in 2016 and played in just three games.
He went on to play in 14 games with the team, hitting .267 with one home run and nine RBIs.

Jetters first postseason appearance came in 2015, where he hit three home runs and had two RBIs in a 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels.
